Who is Naminatha Swami?
21st tirthankara of Jainism
Naminatha, the 21st Tirthankara of Jainism, was born in Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) to King Vijay Raja and Queen Vapra Devi of the Ikshvaku dynasty According to Jain tradition, he was born in the Treta Yuga. From birth, he was known for his deep compassion, wisdom, and inner calm.
As a prince, he fulfilled his royal duties, but at the age of thirty, he renounced worldly life in pursuit of spiritual truth and took diksha (initiation). Through intense meditation and ascetic practices, he attained Kevala Jnana (omniscience). Thereafter, he dedicated his life to guiding others on the path of liberation. He preached the core Jain principles of ahimsa (non-violence), satya (truth),asteya (non-stealing),aparigraha (non-possession), and brahmacharya (celibacy).
Lord Naminatha attained final liberation (moksha) at Sammed Shikharji in present-day Jharkhand, a sacred site where many Tirthankaras have also attained liberation.
